LIBERTY – With the recent bike activity throughout Pickens County, a Liberty councilman thinks Liberty should work towards becoming a bicycle friendly community as well.

Councilman Michael Sheriff spoke with council at their April work session Monday night about his interest in making Liberty a more bicycle friendly town.

“We have really worked hard to become a walkable community, but I think the next step is to work toward making Liberty a bicycle community as well,” Sheriff said. “Easley is well ahead of us on this and Pickens is on board too. We need to get on board as well.”

Sheriff, who is also Chairman of the county’s Vision 2025, told council that there is a plan to pull the three towns together through a bike route.

“This would pull the communities together,” he said. “We need to work on getting on board.”

Sheriff said he hopes to sit down with both Easley Mayor Larry Bagwell and Pickens Mayor David Owens to talk about what Liberty can do to make the connectivity between towns happen.

“We need to find funding for this and make it happen,” Sheriff said.
