EASLEY—The new gazebo at the Easley Downtown Park could bear the name of a former Mayor.

Easley City Council will consider a ordinance naming the gazebo after M.E. “Chris” Christopherson during it meeting Monday night.

Christopherson served as Easley’s mayor from 1999-2007, after serving for more than 20 years on Easley City Council. Christopherson chose not to seek re-election in 2007.

He is a retired Easley High School drama teacher who also served as the Green Wave’s soccer coach when the program started in the early 1990s.

Prior to the regular council meeting, council members will meet in the conference room of City Hall to discuss plans for the annual July 4 Celebration. Easley’s July 4 Celebration has been a tradition for more than 35 years, beginning with the contruction of Old Market Square in the 1970s.

The regular meeting begins 7 p.m. at the Easley Law Enforcement Center.

A segment of the meeting is reserved for citizens who wish to address council. Citizens are asked to sign up before council in order to speak at the meeting.

Also on the agenda is a resolution to accept a $202,680 grant from the American Recover and Reinvestment Act of 2009 through the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program (EECBG) for energy efficiency and renewable energy improvement to West End Hall.

Another proposed resolution would create a partnership between the city and the Pickens County YMCA during the YMCA’s summer day camp. A third resolution will proclaim the month of April as Fair Housing Month.
