EASLEY – A Pelzer man was arrested Tuesday after police say he entered an Easley bank and gave a note to the teller requesting money.

Donnie McWilliams, 32, of Pelzer is charged with entering a bank to steal, a charge which carries a 30-year prison sentence.

Easley police say at 3:43 p.m. on Tuesday, a man entered First Citizens Bank on Calhoun Memorial Hwy. and handed the teller the note demanding money. The man then left the bank in a maroon Ford Explorer with an amount of cash and headed towards Brushy Creek Road.

Easley Police Major Tim Tollison said two tellers saw him leave and got a partial tag number.

The arrest was made at 4:23 p.m. after an Easley police officer spotted the suspected vehicle on SC 153 in the Piedmont area in Anderson County. The officer, with the help of an Anderson County deputy pulled the man over on River Road in Piedmont and took him into custody. Tollison said the arrest went smoothly.

McWilliams had a hearing on Wednesday morning and a $250,000 surety bond was set, Tollison said.
