• An engineering firm agreed to pay a DHEC fine accessed to Pickens County schools for operating water and wastewater systems at four schools before obtaining DHEC approval.

• Pickens city police began to crack down on cruising.

• The Easley Police Department began using radar to catch those who were speeding through town.

• The Pickens County Legislative Delegation was asked to repeal local legislation passed a year earlier that placed a cap on the school superintendent’s salary and the length of his contract.

• A Pickens woman ran off two would-be thieves at gunpoint after she caught them breaking into her home.

• A new church steeple was place on Easley Presbyterian Church.

• The Central High School class of 1935 held its 50th reunion.

• “Aunt Melissa” Williams was days away from celebrating her 100th birthday.

• The Easley High School senior class was to present “Night of Jan. 16,” a play set in the courtroom. Twelve members of the audience were selected to serve as the jury, and no pre-determined verdict was set. The cast would not know the verdict until the foreman of the jury announced “guilty” or “not guilty.”

• Recent births included: Samuel Bernard Thomas, Teresa Lynn Alexander, Charles Furman Fortner Jr., Tracy Lee Simmons, Sara Lou McCollum and Tennie Leigh Caldwell.

• Obituaries were printed for Lewis Warren Davis., Robert O. Yeargin. Rev. Wilburn M. Ferguson, James Baknell “Uncle Bake” Holcombe, Ebbie Isaiah Sweet and Mamie Brown Harbin.

• Mrs. Ben Roberts was selected in a Pickens American Legion Post contest of the counties fairest maidens as the prettiest. She was sponsored by the Edna Porter Beauty Shop. She wold be representing the county at the state American Legion convention in Greenville that July.

• J. Bennett Anthony of Pickens was installed as a deputy sheriff.

• Obituaries were printed for Thomas Mason Looper Jr. and James Henry Gaines.
