“It was wet, but wonderful,” Reid said. “Our walker’s are making a difference as the March of Dimes continues to fight for the day when all babies will be born healthy. We can’t do it without their help, and the turnout we had in the midst of a rainy morning this year shows that they are ready to help.”
Current figures show the walk coming $9,000 short of its 2010 goal, but Reid is optimistic that amount will be covered once all the totals are in.
“We have a few team who got a late start who have asked for more time to raise money,” Reid said. “And our online funding challenge continues through May 7, with a week’s vacation at Cancun on the line.”
The top fundraising team was SunTrust, with more than $17,000 in donations. Pam Durham of Suntrust was the top individual fundraiser. Suntrust was also award for being the top financial team participating in the walk.
The Circle of Champions of top fundraisers included Pam Durham, Erlene Wilson, Billy Grant, J.T. and Stevie Greene, Charlie and Kasi Wilson, Vicki Rogers, Betty Joe Taylor and Benji Robinson.
Chas’ Champs was the top family team, raising more than $12,000.
Kelly Sheppard of Pickens High School was named the team captain of the year.
Abby Cox of the Cornerstone National Bank team was the top youth fundraiser.
Billy Grant, team captain of the Fort Hill Natural Gas team was given the Legacy Award.
Fatz Café and Liberty Elementary were named the top new teams. Fatz Café was also named the small business of the year.
Kmart was the top retail fundraiser.
Shaw Industries was the top manufacturing team and also was the team that raised the most money online.
Pickens High School had the top school team.
The MOMS Club of Easley and Powdersville won the award for the best t-shirt.
