The drop-in was an informal way for members of the community to meet with county staff to learn about and ask questions about the 2030 plan.
The 2030 Pickens County Comprehensive Plan a vision of what Pickens County is to be in the future. The group sent out a public survey to get input on what citizens think is important to plan for. Their goal is to get back around 900 surveys.
The county’s current plan was adopted in 1999 and this year’s undertaking will provide the County with an opportunity to evaluate its past accomplishments, review its direction, and to determine new tools and resources that are needed to achieve its Vision and to meet its future goals and objectives.
In 1994, the General Assembly of South Carolina passed the South Carolina Local Government Comprehensive Planning Enabling Act which included seven elements: population, economic development, natural resources, cultural resources, community facilities, housing and land use.
In 2007, the General Assembly enacted the South Carolina Priority Act which would include two more elements: transportation and priority investment.
Citizens who visited the drop-in were given copies of the current draft of each of these elements. However, members of the Pickens County Planning Commission and the Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee still need help from citizens of Pickens County.
