LIBERTY — With Liberty’s recent success in recycling, a company out of Polly’s Island wants to introduce Liberty to a new way to help continue that success.

Joe Morris, a representative of Waste O, a South Carolina corporation introduced himself and his product Monday night during the Liberty City Council meeting.

According to Morris, Waste O is a company that takes part of the cost of trash away. Waste O, he said, is a way to meter trash with a specific bag.

“If the bags are used correctly with recycling, they will help reduce the amount of solid waste and increase recycling,” Morris said.

Each city that uses the special bags has their city emblem on the bag. The bags are also the first biodegradable bags and will hold 30 gallons. Each bag sells for $1.

Morris said this would help out with Liberty’s attempt to be a more recyclable city. He passed out handbooks about the product to council members.

Mayor Brian Deese told Morris that he would look over the material in detail and set up another date when Morris could come to speak more on the product.

Deese later told council that Liberty’s recycling has went from 5.9 to 21.3 percent over the last few months.

“We were the lowest in the county and now we are doing great,” he said.

He also mentioned that cards about recycling and the recycling center should be mailed out within the next week.
