New offices will begin jobs later in Liberty

LIBERTY -- The Liberty City Council members passed the second reading of the ordinance to adjust the time for new officers to take office effective for municipal elections.

Instead of beginning the first Friday after elections, new officers will take office on Dec. 1 after the election.

Councilman Walt McJunkin made a motion for the ordinance to adjust the time. Councilman Rick Clark made the second.

During discussion, Clark asked if the language should be changed for part of the ordinance. Clark then made a motion that the words “no unbudgeted money” be added to the ordinance as a change in language. Councilman Josh Harrison made the second. The vote to change the language was approved 5 to 1 with Councilman Dwight Yates opposing. Councilman Michael Sheriff was not in attendance at the meeting and did not vote.

The ordinance to adjust the day in which new officers take office after municipal elections carried after a vote of 5 to 1 with Yates opposing. Sheriff did not vote due to absence.
