• Earle Youngblood won the county treasurer’s race and Clement Smith won the coroner’s race in the only two contested battles in the Democratic Primar.

• Recent births included Sharon Lee Baker, Rhonda Susan Breazeale, Laura Lynn Ackerman, Jan Elizabeth Winslett, George Gregory Gabrell and Anthony Michael Roper

•The Easley Jaycees installed its new officers: George Newton, president; Jack Ellenburg, first vice-president; Joe Hilyer, second vice-president; Tom Rutledge, secretary; Walter Cartee, treasurer; Gary Strong, state director; and Clyde Chapman, Bobby Peterson and George Smith, directors.

• Wedding announcements were printed for:

— Peggy Virginia Lenhardt to Monte Edward Smith;

— Patricia Ann Freeman to William Hickson Horton; and

— Julianne Platt to Ens. James Ropert Lathem Gillespie.

• Laura Smith was engaged to Ben Spearman.

• Obituaries were printed for Charles R. Robinson, Logan Phillips and J.F. Banister.

• The paper featured architects’ drawings of the new Pickens County Courthouse.
