Former pageant Vice President on trial

PICKENS – The trial began Monday for a former Vice President and Executive Director of the Miss South Carolina Organization who is facing charges in the molestation of a 12-year-old girl.

Joseph Pettigrew Sanders IV, of Liberty, is charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and lewd act on a minor. He was arrested in August 2008.

A five man, seven woman jury with two alternates will decide the fate of Sanders and co-defendant Anita Jordan Gearhart. Gearhart is charged with unlawful conduct towards a child.
