As the series celebrates its 10th year in Easley, many changes are in line. Instead of the traditional Saturday-to-Saturday schedule, this year’s series will be Wednesday-to-Wednesday for the second year, allowing the championship to be carried live on the main ESPN feed.
This year’s schedule also includes a few games scheduled for 9 a.m., allowing teams and fans to enjoy a ballgame before the heat sets in for a day.
As usual, most games are scheduled for Field One, which is the main field at the Owens complex and has the most seating available.
Some games played on the first four days of the tournament will be played on Field Three. Field Three is shorter than Field One, and in previous years, many of the games played on that field turned into high-scoring home run fests. But a tall fence has been installed for Field Three, negating the effect of the shorter outfield.
All games played after Saturday are scheduled for Field One.
In previous years, the host team — South Carolina District One — generally played on the first two days, then had a day off, then played on the next two days before taking another day off before the semi-finals.
This year’s schedule could make things more challenging, as District One opens with the U.S. West at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 28. District One has a bye on July 29, but plays the U.S. Southwest 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 30.
District One then plays the U.S. Southeast at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 31. The team will then open play at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, facing the U.S. East.
