Johnny Cockrell, 56, of 415 Red Oak Court in Easley and Carroll Hamby, 65, of 121 NyWay Road, Pickens, died after the crash, which occurred at 9:20 a.m. Sunday, according to Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley.
The accident occurred as Cockrell was traveling south on SC 183 seven miles north of Easley in a 2007 Ford Escape, said Lance Cpl Scot Edgeworth with the SC Highway Patrol.
Cockrell’s vehicle went left of center, striking a 1998 Chevrolet van driven by Hamby, Edgeworth said.

Cockrell was trapped in his vehicle after the accident and had to be extracted mechanically, Edgeworth said.
Hamby was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
He was also unrestrained, Kelley said.
Both men died of blunt force trauma, she said.
A passenger in the van, Jane Hamby, was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries, Edgeworth said.
Police closed the road for two hours while they investigated the collision, Edgeworth said.
The weather was clear at the time of the accident, he said.
