PICKENS COUNTY — Filing for three seats on the school board will open August 2, according to county election officials.

The seats for Districts 2, 4 and 6 are up for re-election this year, and filing will be open August 2-16.

Those interested in running for the seats can file at the office of the Registrations and Elections Commission, located at 222 McDaniel Avenue in Pickens, during normal business hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The filing fee for these seats is $120. Checks can be made out to the Pickens County Treasurer.

At the time of filing, each candidate must complete a Statement of Candidacy Form, pay the filing fee, and present proof that they have filed their Statement of Economics Interests form online.

Candidates are required to complete ethics forms. A state law passed this year now requires these forms to be completed online. The forms must be electronically filed here: https://ssl.sc.gov/EthicsRegistration/Login/Login.aspx

The District 2 school board serves the Central and Six Mile areas and is currently held by Dr. B.J. Skelton.

District 4 serves the Liberty area and is currently held by Oscar Thorsland.

District 6 serves the Dacusville area and is currently held by Jim Shelton.

This is a non-partisan election and no party affiliation will be placed on the ballot. The offices will be included on the ballot of the General Election. Only the electors living within districts up for election may participate in this election.
