DOVER, Del.—New Jersey earned a spot in the Big League World Series by finishing the double-elimination U.S. East tournament undefeated this week.

As a nine-game tournament, the U.S. Regional had one “play-in” game. In that game New Jersey defeated New York 10-7.

In the first round of the tournament, New Jersey defeated Maryland 13-3. The host team, Delaware District One, defeated Rhode Island 12-0 in the first round to advance to a second-round match-up with New Jersey.

Meanwhile, in other first round games, Massachusetts defeated Connecticut 4-1 and Pennsylvania topped the Delaware state champions, District 2, 4-3.

In the second round, Pennsylvania defeated Massachusetts 16-2. New Jersey topped Delaware District One 11-0 to set up the semifinal game.

In the third round, New Jersey defeated Pennsylvania 4-2 to stay in the winners’ bracket.

Pennsylvania dropped to the losers’ bracket, where the team defeated Rhode Island 9-5 to earn a rematch with New Jersey. Pennsylvania would have to defeat New Jersey twice to advance to the Big League World Series.

New Jersey took care of business in one game, defeating Pennsylvania 5-4.

The New Jersey representatives hail from District 3 in North Cumberland, N.J.

New Jersey joins South Carolina District 7, South Carolina District 1, Louisiana District 5, Panama, Puerto Rico and the Netherlands as teams assured of a spot in the BLWS. The remaining spots will be secured this weekend.

The Big League World Series begins July 28 at the J.B. “Red” Owens Recreation Complex in Easley.
