Panama tops Guam in 1-hit shutout

EASLEY—Nodier Vega gave up just one hit in seven innings to lead Panama to a 4-0 win over Guam Sunday afternoon.

Panama, 3-1, will have a rematch with Puerto Rico Tuesday night in the International Semi-finals. Guam faces Canada Monday morning in the final day of pool play for the 2010 Big League World Series.

Pamama got on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning. With two outs, Leonardo Burgos singled, then advanced to second on a throwing error. Fabio Marciaga then singled to drive Burgos in. Rodrigo Torres then doubled to drive Marciaga home and give Panama a 2-0 lead.

In the fifth inning, Panama padded its lead. Joseph Flores opened the inning with a double. Leonardo Burgos then drove Flores in with a double. Burgos moved to third on a single by Fabio Marciaga, then scored on a sacrifice fly.
