The Tournament Director for the Big League World Series showed up at Monday’s meeting of Easley City Council simply to say ‘thank you’ to the mayor, council and department heads who were present.
Humphrey said that more than the city recreation department was involved in making the tournament’s 10th year in Easley a success.
“Every department in Easley was touched during our week,” Humphrey said.
Humphrey said that the efforts of hundreds of vonluteers for the BLWS would have been futile without the support of the city.
The tournament enjoyed another successful year, Humphrey said, setting records on some nights.
After a couple of weeks of what Humphrey described as “post-mortem” relaxing and recovering, the BLWS committee will begin work on the 2011 tournament.
“There are always some things that we try that are successful, and other things that are not,” Humphrey said. “We’ll start evaluating on what things we need to keep the same for next year and what things we need to change.”
Humphrey said that offical word on the sites for the 2011 championship tournaments sponsored by Little League Baseball would not be announced until October, but he did not foresee any problems with the tournament returning to Easley for an 11th year.
Mayor Larry Bagwell said that he had a chance to speak with Little League President Stephen Keener during the week of the tournament. Apparently, Keener received a traffic ticket during his stay in Easley.
Despite the ticket, Keener had nothing but good things to say about the city.
“He said he was very impressed with our city and the way we do things here,” Bagwell said.
