On Tuesday, the new preschool opened its doors of service for 46 K1 to K4 students.
Brittany Giametta was hired as the new director of the St. Matthias Lutheran Church Preschool after the previous director left in May. Giametta graduated from Clemson with an Elementary Education degree. She taught elementary school in both South Carolina and Las Vegas.
“I was given this opportunity that I was excited about, and I didn’t think this kind of opportunity would come back around again,” Giametta said. “I wanted to create a preschool that I wanted my children to go to.”
Giametta painted each room and brought in new chairs, tables and other essentials for the school, said K2 teacher Riley Binnicker.
“Since she has come in, it’s unbelievable all the changes she has made,” Binnicker said.
Giametta said her philosophy is “child’s work is play” and the school’s philosophy is “play with a purpose.” The preschool has its own curriculum that also offers the students ways to reach out to the community.
“We try to offer them other things that you wouldn’t normally find in a preschool,” Giametta said. “We want to offer them the love of learning, as well as teach them to have a mission to help others.”
Giametta said the students will participate in service projects like adopting troops, food drives and adopting nursing homes in the area.
“We want to teach them at a young age that life extends past school and home,” Giametta said.
The school is open to any religious denomination. Giametta said they also are in the process of developing a scholarship program as a Christian outreach to parents who want their children to attend the preschool, but may not have the funds to make that happen.
“She (Giametta) has done so much for this school in such a short amount of time,” said Binnicker. “I can’t wait to see what else is in store for these children in the following days.”
St. Matthias Lutheran Church Preschool is open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The school is located on 501 Powdersville Rd. in Easley. For more information about the school, call 442-1379 or visit www.stmatthiaspreschool.com.
