Jonah 1:12
It amazes me when I read God’s wonderful infallible word... that something new always sparks a little fire in my heart and excites me!
While studying this story God spoke to my heart about several ways this story can speak to us personally about many things. It has so many messages in it for everyone.
God told Jonah to go to Nineveh and cry against it, for their wickedness had come up before HIM. Jonah didn’t want to obey God, but instead he wanted to do things his way (thinking of self), so he ran to Joppa and boarded a ship headed to Tarshish. While on this ship, God sent a storm. After Jonah told the shipmates that the storm “they” were suffering was because of him. His disobedience ended up costing him a little bit of a storm and some time in a fish’s belly. That’s not exactly the place Jonah really wanted to be I don’t think, but it did bring a revival to his heart. He did eventually go to Nineveh and the men on the ship worshiped God afterwards when the storm calmed (after they threw Jonah overboard). Jonah’s bad choice affected all the people around him on the ship, but in the end... God was glorified.
Sometimes we make choices that affect other people around us (like the guys on the ship that Jonah boarded). But remember, God can use ever situation good or bad, and turn it for HIS good. God will bring to pass what He wants done. God will be glorified! I encourage everyone to read the story of Jonah and the big fish or as some know it; Jonah in the whales belly. It has something in it for everyone.
Focus- What are you running from? Are you in the belly of a fish? God WILL have HIS way.
Tiny Prayer
Lord, please help us all to be obedient and do as you call us to do, but when we don’t ...please send the fish! Because it’s better for us to spend time examining our hearts than to continue in our sin. Thank you Father. Amen
