Legislators discusss tort reform, healthcare at round table

GREENVILLE — Upstate entrepreneurs have a chance this month to discuss with state legislators legislation that could impact their businesses.

An Upstate Small/Medium Sized Business Legislative Roundtable will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, September 21 at Immedion in Greenville.

During the roundtable discussion, legislators will discuss current and pending state and federal legislation that could impact the business and technology communities.

Fourth District Congressional Candidate Trey Gowdy and Assistant Majority House Speaker Bruce Bannister will lead the discussion.

Topics on the agenda include:

— The return of the Estate Tax in 2011, and how this legislation could impact succession planning

— The effects of government spending on small and mid-sixed business. This topic will touch on the Troubled Asset Relief Program, or TARP, and the U.S. Small Business Administration.

— Health Care Reform, including a timeline concerning how and when the health care bill will affect small business.

— How tort reform efforts at both the state and federal levels could help reduce legal risks for small and mid-sized businesses.

— SC Procurement

— The legislative agenda for the coming session

— The recently passed jobs stimulus package

— Contacting your legislator and ways your legislator can help your business.

Attendees with have an opportunity to participate in a extensive Q and A session with the legislators during the discussion.
