WILLIAMSTON — For Liberty, tonight’s goal is simple: win any way you can.

Last week’s 49-0 loss to Chesnee was a rude awakening for the Red Devils, who hoped to at least be competitive in the restructured Skyline AA conference.

To say this season has turned a bit ugly is definitely an understatement. Liberty has allowed 288 points this season while only scoring 90.

Liberty has given up 939 yards through the air this year, while only gaining 345 yards. Liberty is only averaging 5.4 yards per pass.

The Red Devils will be trying to avoid their second winless season in a row, but they have a very difficult task ahead.

Tonight Liberty faces Palmetto, who is leading the league at present. The Mustangs are 5-1, with their only loss coming against undefeated Belton-Honea Path.

The Mustangs, who are returning to Skyline AA after several years in Western AAA hope to fill in the gap left when league champions Abbeville moved down to Class A.

The Red Devils then play Pendleton, who seemed to finish second behind Abbeville every season. The Bulldogs opened the season with a 1-4 non-conference record that included losses to AAA powers Daniel and Pickens.

Liberty then finishes up the regular season with home games against Carolina and Crescent.

Carolina has just moved down from the Peach Blossum AAA conference. The Trojans stand at 3-3 after falling to Palmetto 33-27 last week. The Trojans have a showdown with Pendleton tonight.

Crescent, at 2-4 right now, could be battling for a playoff spot when they travel to Liberty during the final week of the season.

So the Red devils have their work cut out for them as they try to avoid two straight 1winless seasons.
