PICKENS COUNTY—Police have apprehended an Easley man who authorities say shot his stepbrother in the head on Friday evening.

Pickens County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Creed Hashe said Derrick Jeremiah Goode, 42, turned himself in on Sunday after shooting and hospitalizing 27-year old Christopher Jermaine Thompson. The shooting took place at a residence on Twenty-first Street in Easley at 6 p.m. on Friday. Police issued warrants for Goode’s arrest on Saturday.

Thompson is expected to survive, according to authorities.

Goode is charged with attempted murder and possession of weapon during violent crime.

Incident reports state Thompson tried to cover for his brother while in the emergency room, stating he was holding his brother’s revolver when it accidently went off, striking his mouth and causing injury.

A witness, who was not named in the report released to the media told police it was no accident, and that Thompson had been shot by Goode.

The witness said Goode came home grossly intoxicated, and after a short exchange with Thompson, pulled a gun on his stepbrother.

Police reports say, “As Derrick was drawing the gun he said ‘boy!’ to the victim and fired one shot.”

Thompson was then transported to Baptist Easley Emergency Room in the witness’ car.

Thompson underwent surgery at Greenville Memorial Hospital, but his injuries were non-life-threatening.
