PICKENS COUNTY — County officials held a virtual briefing on May 1 to introduce “KickStart Pickens County,” a three-phase COVID-19 revitalization plan. Phase I of the plan went into effect on Monday, May 4, and while County facilities currently remain closed to walk-in traffic — some previously suspended services have been reinstated.

The Kickstart Pickens County advisory committee is comprised of county staff in coordination with state and local agencies. Their goal is to identify ways in which Pickens County can integrate the state’s AccelerateSC initiative into the KickStart Pickens County program.

Officials said the county’s plan will consist of the same focus areas as AccelerateSC, which include: Response, protection, governance, resources and information.

• The Pickens County Animal Shelter will now allow adoptions by appointment. (Call 864-898-5936 to make an appointment).

• Mile Creek Park has re-opened for those who have existing reservations only; boat ramps remain open. (Note: Playground, restroom facilities, etc. will remain closed).

• The Pickens County Museum is open for visitors to independently explore the museum; occupancy and social distancing guidelines will be enforced. (No tours, classes or gift shop purchases).

• The Register of Deeds office is open. The records room and public terminals to attorneys and paralegals are available by appointment.

• Veteran’s Affairs will provide dedicated spaces for veterans and/or their family member(s) to receive curbside assistance.

Officials said for more information about how to conduct county business at this time, consult their online County Directory to find contact information for the department you need to reach.
