EASLEY — A 71-year old Easley woman was arrested Thursday following what the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office has called an “extensive investigation” into the circumstances surrounding the Oct. 13 shooting death of Augustin Demsa.
According to Captain Chuck James of the PCSO, on Oct. 13, deputies responded to 110 Zion Heights Court in Easley following a report someone at the residence had been shot.
Upon arrival, deputies encountered Virginia Louise Cook, who stated she had shot a male resident following an altercation at the residence, he said.
James said shortly after encountering Cook, deputies located a man inside a camper that served as his living quarters, deceased from apparent gunshot wounds to the torso.
The Pickens County Coroner’s Office later identified the man as 41-year-old Demsa, who was pronounced at the scene.
No arrests were made at the time, according to the PCSO.
“Over the past week, detectives have continued to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting incident, which included collecting additional evidence and interviewing parties associated with both Cook and Demsa in an effort to identify what transpired,” said James in a released statement.
A week later, on Oct. 21, Virginia Louise Cook was taken into custody by the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office and booked into the Pickens County Detention Center where she was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
The Sheriff’s Office has stated no further information regarding the case will be disclosed at this time, citing investigative steps still being taken.
Cook remains in custody at the Pickens County Detention Center after bond was denied.
