CENTRAL — Southern Wesleyan Men’s Soccer recognized their one senior prior to the exhibition game against the USC Union Bantams on Saturday afternoon.
Zayn Sutton, the lone senior for the Warriors this season, was honored prior to kick-off against USC Union. Sutton transferred to Southern Wesleyan for the 2020-21 season after playing for the USC Union Bantams during his freshman and sophomore seasons. While with the Bantams, he served as the team captain both seasons. In his first season for the Warriors, Sutton started in all nine games he played in. Over his career with the Warriors, he has collected four shots and one shot on goal.
“I first want to thank my family for loving and supporting me while I chased my dream of playing soccer in college. I also want to take time to thank every single one of my teammates that I have had the honor of sharing the field with. Without all you guys these four years of my life would not have been as memorable and I will cherish these memories for the rest of my life,” said senior Zayn Sutton. “I want to thank Coach Zach Simmons and Coach Marc Curlee for taking a chance on a kid that was from the middle of nowhere that had a dream. Without these two men in my life, I would not be where I am today. Next, I want to the thank Coach Q for giving me the chance to finish out the dream that I’ve had ever since I was a young kid. I will never be able to truly put into words how much playing for this university alongside my brothers has meant to me. Southern Wesleyan University will forever be a place that I love and cherish, and I am so thankful to have been a part of this university as well as the Men’s Soccer program.”
“Zayn has been so vital in helping us rebuild this program,” said Head Coach Josh Quarandillo. “His loyalty and work ethic are second to none. I can always count on Zayn, whether it is with leadership, service or simply being a friend to talk to. Few things are more important than faith, family, integrity, and a strong work ethic. These are the things that establish a good name and reputation. Zayn embodies these characteristics. SWU Soccer thanks Zayn for his investment and commitment to the program, and we wish him the very best as he navigates the next steps of his life.”
