CENTRAL — Southern Wesleyan University Baseball and Coach Hunter Hubbard have welcomed the initial 2022-23 signing class. The Warriors recently announced the signing of Dylan Massey, Graham Morlan, Dakota Corntassel, Steven Mufareh, Casey O’Dell, Kaleb Gerloff, George Schodowski and Tyler Jay Sciavicco. All signees look to join Southern Wesleyan in the fall of 2022 to participate in the Spring 2023 season.

Southern Wesleyan’s signing class includes three players right out of the Palmetto state in George Schodowski, Dylan Massey and Graham Morlan.

George Schodowski comes to Southern Wesleyan from Irmo, S.C., where he attended Dutch Fork High School. At Dutch Fork, Schodowski served the team as one of their right handed pitchers. “George was the first arm I signed in this class,” commented Hubbard, “he had a really good summer pitching for his legion team. A low ¾ arm slot, with a plus breaking ball that creates tons of sings and misses.”

Dylan Massey is a third baseman out of Gilbert, S.C. He attended Gilbert High School. “Dylan is a left handed bat that has great plate coverage,” said Hubbard. “He kind of fell into our lap after he de-committed in the fall. Kid is an absolute workhorse in the weight room and is a great student who shows leadership characteristics.”

Graham Morlan hails from North Augusta, S.C. He attended Fox Creek High School where he served as the team’s catcher. “Graham came out to our prospect camp and showed out and was spoken very highly of by a great baseball mind in John Jeanes,” said Hubbard. “Graham is a get it done guy. You tell him what you need; he gets it done. Glad to have him behind the plate for us in the coming years.”

The signees from South Carolina are joined by five out of state signees. Two hail from Georgia, and one signee each from Maryland, Florida and Colorado.

Dakota Corntassel hails from Silver Creek, Ga. The left handed pitcher played for Pepperell High School during his high school career. “Dakota is a legit arm that for whatever reason has been overlooked,” said Coach Hubbard. “He steps on the mound and is as competitive as they come. Throws all three pitches when he wants, and looks for the big situations. He is going to make an immediate impact when he steps on the campus.”

Corntassel is joined by fellow Georgia native Tyler Jay Sciavicco. Sciavicco comes from Dacula, Ga. The catcher attended Hebron Christian Academy. “Tyler came to our prospect camp this fall and had a great showing,” said Hubbard. “I knew we needed to sign him right after the workout. He’s really good in the weight room, and is constantly working to get better.”

The signees from Georgia are joined by one signee from Maryland in Steven Mufareh.

Steven Mufareh will join Southern Wesleyan’s pitching staff from Nottingham, Md. The right handed pitcher attended Calvert Hall High School. “Steven is a guy that came to our prospect camp and showed out,” commented Hubbard. “He threw his bullpen and was just spotting up every pitch. High ceiling for this kid once he gets in on our throwing program and into our weight room progression.”

The lone Florida native among the signees, Casey O’Dell will come to Central via Gainesville, Fla. The right handed pitcher attended Trenton High School. “Casey comes to us from a post grad program that I really respect,” said Coach Hubbard. “Scoutz USA is a great program that can really develop players. Casey is very competitive when he steps on the field. Love his passion to compete.”

Kaleb Gerloff, a native of Broomfield, Colo., will join the Warriors as a middle infielder. He attended Broomfield High School. “Kaleb is a very twitchy athlete,” said Hubbard. “6.6 runner who can really pick it defensively. He swings a hot bat that with weight room development is going to turn into a really good college baseball player.”
