EASLEY — You can’t miss him on the sidelines this year for the Easley High School football team. He stands in at 6-foot-6 and weighs close to 235 pounds. He looks like he could still play a couple of snaps, too.

Beyond that, you can hear him hollering and encouraging the defensive backs as an assistant coach for the Green Wave football team.

He’s a motivator!

His name is Korbin Frazier.

“I’ll be coach. I’ll be cheerleader. If they give me a helmet, I’ll play some defensive end or outside linebacker,” said Frazier. “I’m just here to do what I can to push the team to higher heights. We’re starting the season 0-0.”

Frazier continued, “That spirit just carries over from playing and coaching basketball and football. We are definitely taking a step up this year. I think we have a really special group and I think we’ll have a lot of takeaways this year.”

Frazier does bleed green, as they say, as a 2007 graduate of Easley High School. He still remembers helping his Green Wave football team to the first round of the playoffs. His playing weight on the gridiron varsity – at that time – was 6-4 and 220 pounds.

“A lot of us (on the EHS coaching staff) are bleeding green and I think a lot of the coaches will say they didn’t get as far with Easley football when they were playing as they would have liked to,” he said.

So, there is that hunger – currently as a varsity coach at Easley – to help the Easley football players to make a special playoff run.

Frazier went on to play defensive end and linebacker at Pikeville College, starting his final two years of college. He was about 6-5 and 230 in college.

Green Wave head football coach Sam Houston is younger than Frazier. In fact, Houston remembers being a water boy on the sidelines when his dad was coaching and looking up to Frazier as a standout football player.

“It is kinda full circle to get him back on staff,” Houston said. “He was a freak (athlete) in high school and my dad coached him. This off season, I was looking for a couple more coaches and he was already coaching basketball at the middle school. His passion, his energy, his work ethic and his love for kids. He wants to see all these guys be successful. He’s a huge asset to us. He bleeds green and loves Easley, cares about the program and most importantly the kids.”
