SIX MILE — A Pickens County man has been charged with killing his mother by setting her house on fire, according to Chief Deputy Chad Brooks with Pickens County Sheriff’s Office.
Eric James Harmon, 34, was arrested Friday and charged with murder and arson first-degree, Brooks said.
According to Brooks, on July 1, firefighters responded to a home on Duncan Road in Six Mile.
Following the fire, firefighters discovered a body later identified as 57-year-old Beverly Harmon, Brooks said.
According to Brooks, following an investigation, it was determined the fire had been intentionally set by her son, Eric Harmon.
Harmon admitted to setting the fire to the home with the help of an accelerant, while his mother was still alive in the home, according to the warrants.
According to the warrants, Eric had burn marks on his arms.
He remains in custody at the Pickens County Detention Center.
