EASLEY — Two former Easley High School students were awarded scholorships from Southern College of Optometry.
Tanner Semones was recently honored with the SCO Alumni Endowed Scholarship.
The scholarship recognizes a student with a competitive GPA, Optometry Admission Test score and demonstrated service contributions to his or her community, college or country. It comes with a $5,000 per year monetary award.
Semones is the son of Diane Swope and Chris Semones and the stepson of Charley Swope and Tracy Semones. He is the grandson of Gail and Doug Nations. Semones is a graduate of Easley High School and Clemson University.
Edith Ramirez-Vazquez was honored with the Julianna Crosby Memorial Endowed Scholarship at Southern College of Optometry.
The scholarship was established by Dr. Joseph Crosby, a 1967 SCO graduate, and Mrs. Opal Crosby in memory of their daughter, Julianna and goes to a resident of Tennessee or South Carolina with demonstrated need. It comes with a $2,000 per year monetary award.
Ramirez-Vazquez is the daughter of Juana and Angel Ramirez. She is a graduate of Easley High School and the University of South Carolina Upstate.
Each year, Southern College of Optometry recognizes its most outstanding students with scholarships to help defray the costs of their optometric education.
This year, the college awarded 83 students nearly $750,000 for the pursuit of their Doctor of Optometry degrees.
