PICKENS — The wheel will be turning and the hills resounding in song at Hagood Mill on Aug. 20 when an old time camp style sing-along is held, just like our forefathers did 100 years ago, with Last Road Bluegrass Band, Lib Porter and Heartstrings, and Becky Stovall.
Leading off the show at 11 a.m. will be local musician and singer/songwriter Becky Stovall. She plays an eclectic mix of upbeat old time gospel tunes, gospel blues, and even includes a few mountain gospel ballads.
Around noon the songs will be led by the gospel renderings of Lib Porter and Heartstrings.
Last Road will take the stage at 1 p.m. to perform an old-style gospel set. Boasting some of the finest vocals to be heard anywhere, Last Road is now performing many of their own original songs supported by tight instrumentation.
The gristmill and other demonstrations will be running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Visitors are encouraged to bring their favorite old-time instruments and join in the “open jam” throughout the day under the ancient cedar beside the1791 log house.
Admission is free to the Hagood Mill Site and the Hagood Creek Petroglyph Site. The parking fee is $5 for this rain or shine event. All proceeds from parking help fund Hagood Mill.
The Hagood Mill Historic Site is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday all year and operates rain or shine for a folk life festival the third Saturday of every month.
