EASLEY — It was the season opener for both teams — the bleachers were packed, the temperature was in the low 50s and it felt more like a Friday night football game.

GREENVILLE — Jakobe Ginns is the type of person that — whatever he ends up doing in life — you know he’ll be successful.

To this day, Rob Stanifer is forever grateful for the opportunity to play American Legion baseball for Post 52.

The scoreboard wasn’t even on and there was no announcer. There was no cost to get into the game. It was a preseason baseball game that went nine innings on Saturday afternoon. The final score didn’t really matter either (even though Fort Dorchester won 10-5 over host Easley.)

EASLEY — Quietly, Gill Payne has put together a top-notch baseball program at Easley High School. He’s entering his eighth season at the EHS helm with an overall record of 114-67. The schedule has been tough, too.

EASLEY — The countdown is on … 100 days until the Easley American Legion Alumni Baseball Night on Friday, May 29. The banquet starts at 3:30 p.m. at the Larry Bagwell Gymnasium and then the Post 52 American Legion baseball team is scheduled to play Spartanburg.

EASLEY — Last week, Steve Garrison and Gregg Powell met to talk about an upcoming event in Easley. They could have talked about it for days, especially since it featured their favorite sport of baseball and some heartfelt memories.
