CENTRAL — Several Daniel students recently received top honors in the Chemistry Olympiad competition.

This event, sponsored by the American Chemical Society, was the first level of a nationwide process to select an American team that will represent the country at the international competition in Thailand this summer.

Daniel juniors Connor Lehmacher and Jacob Jenson were the two highest scorers in this competition that featured 293 chemistry students from across Upstate South Carolina and Western North Carolina.

Manav Jain was tied for third and Benjamin Buck was fifth, giving Daniel four of the top five places. Students from Easley tied for third and finished sixth and eight, giving Pickens County seven of the top eight scores. Four other Daniel students finished in the top 50.

Lehmacher and Jenson advanced to the next level of the competition which was held at Furman University on April 18.
