LIBERTY — The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office served multiple arrest warrants on three suspects based off an extensive investigation into Brandy Spivey Karr. Karr is the former Treasurer for the Liberty High School Red Devil Athletic Booster Club.
The investigation began when the School District of Pickens County (SDPC), based off their policies and procedures, conducted a review of the booster organization. The booster club is a separate organization from the SDPC; however, the school district periodically reviews organizations associated with schools within the district. Discrepancies were discovered and the SDPC reported the incident to the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office for investigation.
Probable cause was developed, that during Karr’s time serving as Treasurer, a substantial amount of money was embezzled. Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division worked closely with financial institutions and were able to find where the embezzled funds were converted into personal gains for Karr.
In addition, Detectives identified and charged two co-defendants as conspirators in the Breach of Trust investigation: Scottie Ray Karr and Shaun Ray Karr.
All suspects have been arrested and processed at the Pickens County Detention Center.
