PICKENS — It is time for some spring-cleaning to help out a worthy organization.

The Pickens County Literacy Association is seeking donations of gently used books for their upcoming used book sale set for May 5 and May 6.

Items needed include paperback and hard back books, children’s books, craft and cookbooks as well as video and audio cassettes, CDs and DVDs.

The PCLA is a nonprofit organization that trains volunteer tutors to teach reading skills to non- or low-reading adults, including those needing help reading English.

For more than 10 years, this semi-annual event has served as the PCLA’s major fund raiser. The success of this project is due to the generosity of those who continue to donate books and those that shop at the twice-a-year sales, according program director Everett Curl.

The following local businesses assist the PCLA by collecting books and other items:

In Pickens, bring items to the Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative office, Grace United Methodist Church, Pickens First Baptist Church, Pickens Savings and Loan and Pickens Federal Credit Union.

In Easley, donations can be brought to Custom Cleaners, Fred’s Pharmacy and Kelly’s Pharmacy.

Donations can also be brought to Central Town Hall or the Central-Clemson Recreation Center.

In Clemson, drop-off sites are Family Medicine Associates and Columbo’s Pizza.

If you know an adult that would benefit from this program, contact any member of the PCLA. If your business or organization would like to help the PCLA collect books for the event, call 639-2925 or 561-3075.
