EASLEY — Family Promise of Pickens County recently announced the dedication of The Leslie Flynn Day Center would take place next Thursday.

“As a founding member of the local chapter of Family Promise, Flynn diligently worked to see the dream of such an organization through to fruition,” said a spokesperson. “And Family Promise owes so much of the impact they’ve been able to make to her guidance.”

Through partnerships with local congregations and the community, Family Promise of Pickens County (FPPC) works to meet the immediate shelter and food needs of homeless families while guiding them toward sustained self-sufficiency, said officials.

“Our goal is to address the underlying issues of homelessness to minimize the risk of relapse,” they said. “Our program offers the only Pickens County shelter devoted specifically to families with children.”

The program asserts an average of 74 percent of families served transition to long-term housing as part of a of FPPC’s program. Following the initial, dedicated case management, FPPC provides ongoing mentoring for a year, they said.

The Leslie Flynn Day Center will provide a home away from home for families that participate in the Family Promise program, officials stated. Complete with a kitchen, family room, library, computer room and playground, the Day Center gives families a place to gather, grow and enjoy one another, they said.

In honor of Flynn’s dedication to Family Promise, a commemorative celebration will be hosted at the Day Center on Thursday, Sept. 26, 5-7 p.m.

The event will serve as an opportunity to further reflect on Flynn’s influence on Family Promise and to celebrate the difference the organization has been able to make as a result of her efforts, officials said.
