EASLEY — Kasten Harvey has that type of attitude that every athlete needs.

“I always feel like I could be better,” said the former Easley Green Wave baseball standout. “I’m trying to play baseball as long as I can. I’m hoping to keep the dream going.”

Continued Harvey, “I always feel like I could be better.”

Harvey is in his final season of baseball at Lincoln Memorial University and he’s making the most of it. He’s batting .293 (12-of-41) with 3 doubles, 3 home runs, 2 triples, 7 RBIs and 8 walks.

“I look forward to hitting some more bombs,” Harvey said. “I feel like I’ve been preparing the last four years – this is what I’ve done each day.”

At press time, Harvey had 3 home runs in 40 at bats this season. “I gotta get going,” Harvey said, about hitting home runs.

Harvey is making his mark, though, on the Lincoln Memorial baseball program. Last year as a junior, Harvey broke the school’s single-season record for doubles in one season. He had 25 doubles in 50 games.

Coach Justin Haywood said that the “consistency” that Harvey brings to the team and his top-notch personality has been huge for the team.

“Number one, Kasten is a great human being,” said Coach Justin Haywood. “He’s a big catalyst for our offense, a run producer and a big part of our offense.

Back in the day: Local baseball fans remember Harvey at EHS as a talented shortstop and pitcher at around 5-foot-9 and 175 pounds. He’s currently closer to 5-11 and has bulked up to around 205 pounds.

Harvey was the Class 4A Player of the Year in 2011. He hit .400 for the Green Wave with 4 home runs, 27 RBIs, 20 stolen bases, a 6-0 pitching record, no earned runs in 28 innings of work with 47 strikeouts.

He brought the heat, too, on the mound with a 91 mile-per-hour fastball.

Easley baseball coach Gill Payne holds Harvey in the highest of regards.

“Kasten is a quality young man,” said Payne. “One of my favorite players that I have coached. A true competitor who excelled at everything he did at EHS and now at LMU. Played football, basketball, and baseball while here. A true leader who is the epitome of leading by example. The COVID year definitely hurt him recruiting wise because he didn’t get to finish his junior season. I know Wake Forest along with others had interest his senior year, but it was just late in the process. LMU got lucky and I was lucky to coach him!”
