POWDERSVILLE — Recently, Keagan Reid said that he turned in the best game of his life as the quarterback of the Powdersville High School football team. He completed 21-of-34 passes for 315 yards and two touchdowns. He graded out at 82 percent.
Final score: Powdersville 36, Abbeville 22.
“He (Reid) had an outstanding game,” said Patriots Varsity Head Football Coach Robert Mustar. “He was playing mistake-free football. He made some wise decisions and was able to get us in a groove on offense. We were able to be productive and move the ball in a positive manner.”
Added Reid, quickly giving credit to his teammates, “I just felt overall we played well as a team. I felt like my O-Line had a great game — no sacks. We have some young guys (on the line), but we also have some experience. We’ve gotten a lot better since preseason. The week before (against Seneca), I was sacked six times. Also, no turnovers played a big role in that game. Being able to get the ball in the end zone and get three field goals (from Ethan …) helped a lot.”
If that was not enough, Reid turned in another standout effort last Friday night in a thrilling 33-29 victory over Wren. He completed 15-of-22 passes for 188 yards, a rushing touchdown and no interceptions.
And if that STILL wasn’t enough, he rushed for a team-high 47 yards on 15 carries. Several of those yards were against a tough D-Line of Wren in the trenches, converting on key third and fourth downs.
In the final seconds of this game, Reid scrambled to his right and hit Bennett Brooks for the game-winning touchdown.
In the future, the 6-foot-4 Reid said he would like to continue his football career in college. He is a die-hard fan of Clemson University football, but he said he would not rule out a college far from home.
Ending thought: Powdersville’s win over Wren was just one game. They still have six regular-season games left on their schedule and they are hoping to make a big playoff run. However, the touchdown pass of Reid to Brooks in the final seconds of that game will be one they’ll be talking about for several years down the road. It was a great atmosphere and a great game for Friday night football! You can see that final play on The Easley Progress Facebook page.
