PICKENS COUNTY — A very special car — for a very special cause — will be on the auction block April 27.

George and Megan Shinn have donated a 2012 Ford Mustang with all proceeds from the sale benefitting Mary Sunshine House (MSH), a specialized residential community in Pickens County for adults on the autism spectrum.

The Boss 302 from the George Shinn Collection will be sold at the GAA Classic Cars auction in Greensboro, NC. More information on the car and pictures can be found at www.gaaclassiccars.com

“I love cars. I’ve been involved with cars most of my life,” said George Shinn. “I’m definitely a gearhead. No question about that. I have more trust with GAA Auctions than anywhere else and that’s why I bring my cars here. I haven’t missed an event in four or five years.”

MSH has 10 newly renovated apartments with two bedrooms, one bath and all new appliances. Opened in the Fall of 2023, there are currently four residents and several applications under consideration.

MSH is located in Central, within walking distance to Southern Wesleyan University. Clemson Area Transit (CATbus) offers free transportation to Central and the surrounding areas of Clemson, Pendleton and Seneca.

Mary Sunshine House was established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 2017 by a group of visionaries working to make a difference for their autistic adult children. In the following years, a board was formed with a plan to model the program after a similar successful one in the California East Bay Area.

“We are thrilled that George and Megan are supporting Mary Sunshine House and its mission,” said Lori Pendergraph, MSH Founder/Board President. “It is fitting that this auction will take place during Autism Acceptance Month, which promotes acceptance for the condition that occurs in one of every 36 children in the United States.”

Through his connection with Pendergraph, Shinn wanted to do something to contribute to the success of Mary Sunshine House, thus the donation of the Ford Boss 302 Mustang with proceeds benefiting MSH.

Seed money from Doris Buffett’s Sunshine Lady Foundation pushed the project forward, putting shape to a vision.
