PICKENS COUNTY — A Pickens County-wide voter education and registration campaign is underway by the League of Women Voters of Oconee and Pickens Counties (LWVOP) and the NAACP of Pickens County. The two organizations plan to increase the number of citizens registered to vote and showing up at the polls November 5 over that in previous years. Pickens County data show that 74% of registered voters turned out to vote in the 2020 presidential election. Not all eligible voters are registered.
Volunteers of the two organizations are contacting citizens in a variety of ways: attending local fairs and festivals, speaking at organization meetings, knocking on doors, placing phone calls to inactive voters, distributing flyers, and maintaining VOTE411.com, a website which contains answers to most citizens’ questions.
October 4 is the deadline to register to vote in person at the Pickens County Board of Voter Registration and Elections in Pickens. For more information, visit LWVOP.org or SCVotes.gov. If your organization would like to hold a voter registration event and share information on voting and elections, contact LWVOP1@gmail.com.
The League of Women Voters, Oconee and Pickens Counties (LWVOP) and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People of Pickens County (NAACP) are non-partisan organizations, dedicated to citizen education and engagement.
