EASLEY — “We can’t wait for people to come and join the center, and enjoy the space that we’ve renovated.”

Those were the words of Kim Valentin, the Executive Director of Pickens County Meals on Wheels, recently, at a ribbon cutting for the new Young at Heart Senior Dining and Activity Center.

This new facility, at 250 Burns Road in Easley, is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and they will be closed on the major holidays. The cost of a membership is just $25 for one person or $35 for a couple. Lunch runs from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and is just $3 for members or $5 for non-members.

“We are thankful to have the partnership with the YMCA,” Valentin said. “They are the ones really giving us this opportunity.”

Tiffany Martin, the Exercise Instructor for the new facility, is raring to go with her classes. She and her family grew up, too, with the Easley YMCA and she is just happy to be a part of it all.

“A lot of people put a bit of a stigma on a Senior Center, but we’re actually a center for those 55 and up,” she said. “We are all young at heart, and we like to keep it that way. We will be having programs and fitness programs – fun games and activities, definitely good food and time for fellowship to enhance the spirit, body and mind.”

Martin will be teaching one class a day from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

She added, “This is a great transformation. I used to work here when my children were born and they are now 22 and 24. They went to the after-school-program here at the YMCA in this building.”

It’s a great time for the city of Easley and the ones in their golden years.
