EASLEY — At press time, the Powdersville volleyball team traveled to Easley and lost a heartbreaking match in five games. It was one of those quality matches where the local fans at the match used the term of “good volleyball” in describing the type of play.
Currently, you can bet PHS Coach Brooke Passinni and her team feel like they are back at the drawing board and are finding ways to improve.
But a couple weeks ago, it was a “Meet the Patriots Night” to kick off the sports seasons for Powdersville High School. All of the sports teams at PHS took centerstage with a DJ in the gym playing music, a silent auction, plenty of food and each team shared a part of the spotlight.
Several members of the Powdersville volleyball team took some time to reflect on their memorable season last year as the defending Class 3A State Champs.
Sarah Van Daele (Sr., DS, 5-6: “The experience was one of a kind for me. I was so blessed to be with that team. We all bonded so well. I think halfway through the season the flip switched – we just became such a good team.”
Ava Chase (Jr., 5-8, RS): “Winning state was so fun and I’m just so thankful, working together and being part of the team.”
Peyton Carmon (Jr., OH, 5-7): “It was an amazing experience and I love each and every one of these girls. We have an amazing bond and we worked our butts off. I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
Caroline Sweet (Sr., DS, 5-6): “I think it was just a good reward because we had been putting in so much work the whole season day in and day out. There were a lot of ups and downs as well. This group of girls won something special and it is like family for us.”
Coach Brooke Passinni, about her 27-3 team last year and Class 3A championship team: “Our goal every year is to first win region and then to go on and win state. We have always had high hopes of making it back to th state platform since 2018. These players are hard workers. They make my job easy. We had two seniors last year and this year we are returning almost our full team. We’re excited, but we also know that every team we face is getting better as well. We still have a lot of work to do to try and get back this year.”
The 2025 Powdersville varsity volleyball roster includes: Gracie McCall, Alyssa Whiteside, Caroline Sweet, Sarah Van Daele, Katie Brannam, Ava Chase, Harper Latham, Alyssa Joy, Claire Spires, Jocelynn Patterson, Diannie Gonzalez and Peyton Carman. Head Coach – Brooke Passinni.
